The Southwind Group of the Sierra Club consists of some 700 members in south-central Kansas, stretching from the Oklahoma border to Lindsburg in the north and west to include Hutchinson and Pratt.The club meets on the second Friday of each month except for August and December. The meetings are held at the Great Plains Nature Center on the northwest corner of Woodlawn and 29th Street north (access is off of 29th). Meetings begin at 6:30 P.M. with pizza, soda and a few minutes to talk with other members. At 7:00 P.M., informal reports of outings, environmental issues, up-coming programs and the like are discussed. The formal program begins at 7:30 P.M. in the auditorium of the Center and may range from slides of the recent outings, to a presentation by a speaker on some topic of the environment, to having one of the local shop owners come in and show off new hiking, floating, and camping equipment.
