Forum on Proposed BPU Coal Fired Power Plant on November 30th at KCKCC

A forum on the proposed Kansas City Kansas Board of Public Utilities plan for a new coal-burning power plant will be Thursday, November 30th at 11 a.m. in room 2703 in the Nursing Building at the Kansas City Kansas Community College. We will also address challenges and solutions concerning energy production.

The address of the college is 7250 State Avenue in Kansas City, Ks. If you park nearest to the Performing Arts Center, you can enter the doors, walk down the hall (literally, the hallways slopes downwards,) down the stairs/elevator, and to the left down the hallway. The room is about half way down that hallway and to the right (in the Nursing Building to the left - don't go down the hallway straight ahead or you will be in the Flint Building).

Black & Veatch, the engineering firm, is preparing a resource plan for BPU and indicates they will recommend a new 250 MW coal fired power plant possibly along with pollution controls on their old plants, some wind power and an energy efficiency program. The expected site of the coal plant is next to their existing plant at Nearman Creek. This plant would emit the global warming gas of about 300,000 new cars along with mercury and other pollutants. If you can't make the forum, contact all the Board at 913-573-9000 or

Jim Head, President KCKBPU
540 Minnesota Ave.
Kansas City, KS 66101

and tell them you don't want to have to pay for a coal-fired power plant that will make global warming worse.
