Support Senate Bill 87
Providing Funding for State Parks
What we need you to do:
If you have not already done so, please contact you State Senator and ask her or him to vote in favor of S.B. 87, which will provide funding for state parks. You can find your Senator's contact information on your Legislative Alert Quick Reference Guide (you received it this week in the mail). This is likely to be voted on in the Senate on Thursday, March 10, so call immediately!!
Background:
S.B. 87 would access a $4 vehicle registration fee on most non-commercial vehicles in Kansas - $3.20 would go to state parks and $.80 to local parks.
Under the bill, state parks would receive no more funds from the state general fund, freeing those funds for education and other state needs, and there would be no entrance fees to state parks for anyone with a Kansas license tag.
The vehicle registration fee would provide a steady funding source to maintain and improve state parks and an additional funding source, beyond local property taxes, to maintain and improve local parks.
Please contact your state senator by 2:00 p.m. on Thu. 3/10. Call your Senator at their Topeka office using the number on your Legislative Alert Quick Reference Guide, or you can leave a telephone message for any state senator through the state capitol switchboard at (785) 296-0111.
Thanks
Your Sierra Club - Kansas Chapter and
Charles Benjamin
