Dear Sierra Club Tree Members,

We have an important bill that we want our legislators to support.  Please call your legislator as early as you can sometime on Friday, February 17.

Who:  Contact your state represenative (NOT your state Senator).
Go to http://maps.kansasgis.org/demograph/ims/myelect.cfm  to locate your state representative if you are not sure.

What:  Ask your state representative to vote YES on HB 2657. HB 2657 would allow electric and natural gas public utilties that invest in energy efficiency and conservation programs for residential or commercial customers to recover the cost of these programs.  The program would only affect customers who have had an energy audit and are current in their utility bills.  Utilities would also be allowed to recover the costs of programs aimed at reducing uncollectible bills from residential customers who are considered at high risk of failing in their utility bills.  All energy efficiency and conservation programs would have to be approved by the Kansas Corporation Commissions prior to implementation and cost recovery by utilities.

When:  Call or e-mail not late than 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday February 16). Where to find state representative's phone and e-mail addresses:  Office phone numbers for all state representatives can be found at:  http://maps.kansasgis.org/demograph/ims/myelect.cfm E-mail addresses for all state representatives can be found at: http://www.kslegislature.org/legsrv-house/searchHouse.do;jsessionid=D760C24C074BF0D9293465461DD97C0A

Why:   HB 2657 will encourage more energy efficiency and conservation that helps ratepayers by ultimately reducing energy bills and helps the environment by reducing the need for more electricity produced from coal burning electric power plants that emit dangerous air pollution and global warming gases.

Thank you for you quick help, Craig Wolfe of the Legislative Action Tree
