Dear Tree Member (%FirstName-Sum%) (%LastName-Sum%),

URGENT! ACT NOW: Governor Sebelius has vetoed a bill that would pave the way for the Holcomb coal plants. Allowing these plants to be built would be an environmental, economic and public health disaster. Make sure the permit denial, which you and so many others worked so hard for is upheld. There will undoubtedly be more legislation introduced to allow the coal plant in KS. The pro-coal legislators will likely try to "sweeten" the deal by throwing in a few "green" provisions, BUT don't be fooled. The underlying motive is to put coal plants in KS. The environment needs your help now.

ACTION: Call or write your legislator and tell them the following:

  • Support the Governor's veto
  • Oppose ANY new legislation that would allow the coal plants to be built!
  • No matter how "green" the bill may appear we cannot accept anything that would allow coal in KS.
  • Write rite a letter to the editor stating your support for the Governor's veto and your desire for clean energy. Please see this link for talking points and to submit a letter directly to your local publications. http://www.gpace.org/?q=lte

Increase Weatherization from Aquila

Aquila, a major utility in Kansas, is asking for a rate increase for their Kansas natural gas territory.  With that rate increase, they would like to do a very small amount of weatherization for low-income families.  The Sierra Club would like them to do energy efficiency improvements for all customer classes and increase the amount of money for weatherization.

Please contact the KCC by April 29th and tell them this.  You can e-mail them at public.affairs@kcc.state.ks.us or write to them at Kansas Corporation Commission, Office of Public Affairs 1500 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.

Thanks!

Bill Griffith, Kansas Chapter Chair
